Monocle 03 Suigi:

Sugi – also known as Japanese cedar – is popular as an ornamental plant in Japan and has a delicate, clean and energising fragrance. After our collaborations with Comme des Garçons on Hinoki and Laurel we returned to them for this third scent. Developed in Paris by Antoine Maisondieu it comes in a Monocle-designed bottle and box. It is a refreshing scent that’s light but sophisticated, beginning with top notes of Mediterranean cypress and pepper from Madagascar, followed by iris from Florence and cedar from Virginia, and finished with pine and Haitian vetiver.

Monocle 01 Hinoki:

Produced for Monocle by Comme des Garçons' perfumer, Antoine Maisondieu, the inspiration for Hinoki comes from a perfectly still, slightly chilly spring morning spent soaking in an indoor/outdoor tub at the Tawaraya in Kyoto. It pulls together our memory of the mosses and trees outdoors and the sharp notes of the boxy hinoki tub.

Diptyque Tam Dao:

A memory from Indochina and its mountains covered by holy forests: the velvety, milky scent of sandalwood transported in logs by elephants and burned in temples. At night, the wind tempered the humidity and enhanced the rich scents of the slightly spicy wood. Yves Coueslant, one of diptyque’s founders, has never forgotten this fragrance from his childhood. A vivid memory illustrated by sandalwood from Mysore, at the forefront of this fragrance, cooled by vibrant cypress and myrtle.

Diptyque eau de lavande:

This timeless scent blends absolute lavender, essential oils, coriander seeds, nutmeg and cinnamon leaf. Its elegant scent evokes intimate memories and landscapes, such as those of vast, rolling lavender fields on a summer’s day. It boasts a complex, generous bouquet that will linger on the skin, with spicy notes that enliven and enrich the senses.

Diptyque Eau de Lavande is described as “wise and friendly”, paying homage to the precious Provençal lavender with which it is made.

Molecule 01:

Molecule 01 consists of the molecule Iso E Super pure and singular. Iso E Super is a molecule that hovers close to the skin to create an indefinable aura round the wearer. It is characterised by a hyper-modern cedar wood note with a velvety sensation. Perfumer Geza Schön explains its allure: “Iso E Super is one of those skin-sexy scents that makes you want to nestle into it. It’s comforting, cocooning.”

Iso E Super has a marked intermittence. To the wearer, it seems to vanish and then re-appear. This is due to the way it bonds with receptors in the olfactory system, only slowly releasing to make way for a fresh charge of the molecule on the receptors. Iso E Super does not exist in nature. It was created in a laboratory at IFF in 1973.

Blackbird Ballard Pipe Bomb:

SCENT NOTES: saltwater, metal, amber

DETAILS: At first, all you can smell is a faint spark; something sharp and bright leading down the fuse to a fragrant explosion. Literally, this perfume starts very quiet and takes about ten minutes for the fuse to burn down. Synthesized with the finest raw materials, Pipe Bomb moves from scent to scent within its composition, dazzling with each shift. Like an underwater firecracker bundled with incense, light saltwater notes meld with hot metal to create an inviting, warm glove that shapes differently to fit each wearer's hand. Legal in all 50 states.
